Planned Impact Report: BagWasher’s Role in Reducing Plastic Waste & Water Consumption in Colorado Homes

Executive Summary

Like it or not, zip-top style bags are here to stay. Commonly known as “single-use” they can and should be reused. They are convenient and inexpensive, but they profoundly impact our environment. Know as “plastic film” these bags are made to be reused. Imagine the collective impact that choosing to reuse these bags and then recycle them properly would have on the planet’s overall health.

Plastic Waste Reduction Potential

  • Annual Plastic Bag Usage in Colorado: 1.19 billion bags (2,380,000 homes × 500 bags/home)
  • BagWasher’s Impact: If 10% of households adopt BagWasher, an estimated 119 million plastic bags could be reused instead of discarded. If 25% adoption, up to 297.5 million plastic bags could be reused. If 50% adoption, BagWasher could help reduce 595 million bags from landfill and recycling streams.

Water Consumption Reduction Potential

  • Current Hand-Washing Estimate: If every home washes just 50 bags per year using traditional hand washing, this equates to 4 gallons per wash, totaling 476 million gallons of water wasted annually (2,380,000 homes × 50 bags × 4 gallons).
  • BagWasher’s Potential Water Savings: If 10% of homes transition to BagWasher, approximately 47.6 million gallons of water could be saved each year. If 25% adoption, water savings could reach 119 million gallons annually. If 50% adoption, up to 238 million gallons of water could be conserved.

Study & Consumer Reporting Initiative

To validate BagWasher’s impact, we plan to launch a consumer study where users can document:

  • Number of plastic bags reused per household.
  • Average number of times each bag is reused before disposal.
  • Plastic bag consumption reduction achieved through BagWasher adoption.
  • Water usage comparison: BagWasher vs. hand washing methods.

Projected Long-Term Environmental Benefits

By incorporating BagWasher into daily household routines, Colorado homes can significantly reduce unnecessary plastic waste and water usage. Additionally, these changes can encourage more conscious consumer behaviors toward reusable bag adoption, waste diversion, and sustainable household practices.

Next Steps:

check
Develop a structured reporting process for households to log their BagWasher usage.
check
Gather real-time consumer data to refine impact projections and sustainability metrics.
check
Use findings to advocate for broader adoption and potential sustainability partnerships.

Conclusion

BagWasher presents an opportunity to transform daily habits and make measurable contributions toward sustainability in Colorado homes. Through consumer engagement, data collection, and widespread adoption, we can drive significant reductions in plastic waste and water consumption

—leading to a cleaner, greener future.
